Fix Claude's Repetitive Vocabulary with Message Display Hook

Hacker News •
×

Absolutely ripping your hair out reading Claude referring to everything as “honest takes” and "load-bearing seams"? You’re not alone. But there’s a way to turn this frustration into something ridiculous you can't help but laugh at—or just fix Claude's vocabulary. Enter the Message Display hook.

First, create a Python3 script with replacements like "seam" → "whatchamacallit", "honest take" → "spicy doodad", "load-bearing" → "cooked". Save it as wordswap.sh in ~/.claude/hooks/ and make it executable with chmod +x.

Then add it to your settings.json in the hooks block under "Message Display" with type "command" pointing to the script. Hooks load at startup, so start a new session to begin your new life. Come up with better replacements and have fun!
