The FIDE Ethics & Disciplinary Commission (EDC) has sanctioned former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik following complaints about public statements regarding cheating allegations. The EDC found Kramnik responsible for multiple code violations, including bullying, psychological abuse, and making false public accusations. These findings stemmed from his public commentary on players like David Navara and Daniel Naroditsky.

The commission dismissed charges related to integrity and reputational harm to FIDE, stating they lacked sufficient evidence. However, the EDC emphasized that public accusations of cheating without institutional verification cause unjustified harm and are unacceptable. The proceedings did not assess the scientific merit of Kramnik's anti-cheating methodology itself, focusing instead on the communication of allegations.

As a result, Kramnik received a two-year ban from FIDE competitions. The final 12 months are suspended for three years, making the active ban one year, provided no further breaches occur. He must also complete 12 months of unpaid service for the chess community. The decision can be appealed within 21 days.
