Extinct Media Museum is a private Tokyo museum dedicated to media that have died or are dying out, based on the belief that all media other than paper and stone will become extinct. The collection totals 4000 items, of which 3000 are on permanent display, including video cameras, photo cameras, typewriters, PCs, music players, cell phones, PDAs, and mobile terminals with keyboards.

Visitors can freely touch and examine the objects – a “touch museum” – and observe the structure and texture of each item in detail. The museum highlights the evolution of home‑use video cameras, displaying the transition from 8mm film (9.5mm, Double 8, Single 8, Super 8) to video formats such as Betamax, VHS, VHS‑C, 8mm video, and DV, culminating in memory cameras.

Admission allows photos, video, and 3D scans of the collection. Visitors may spend up to two hours and are encouraged to share images on social media and blogs so the museum’s artifacts are preserved worldwide. The museum also rents items for film, TV, and independent productions, and its shop sells exclusive memorabilia.

The underground “орт” houses a 3000‑book catalog library from the 1960s to the 2020s, free to browse, and a sẽ scan‑snap spot where guests can scan catalog pages with the SV600 scanner.
