The EDG open source transition: EDG is going open source. On September 30, 2026, the source for EDG's C++ front end goes public, and The C++ Alliance becomes its nonprofit home. This is a change of steward, not a change of course.

Same engine, same standards, professionally maintained.\n\nFor thirty years, EDG's front end has powered C++ compilation. The C++ Alliance provides fiscal sponsorship, technical continuity, and domain expertise. It has fiscal-sponsorship infrastructure, C++ compiler engineers, and roots in the C++ standards and Boost communities. It also has LLVM committers with Clang contributions.\n\nDevelopment follows three tracks: community contributions via pull requests, ongoing maintenance published immediately, and collectively funded features.

The Fiscal Sponsorship Committee (FSC), chaired by John Spicer, oversees the process. The codebase is public at github.com/edgcpp.\n\nWhat changes: the licensing model and funding. The engine, standards, and point of contact stay the same. John Spicer remains Chair.

The community can contribute and fund features. No early access.
