Singer Dua Lipa has opened the Manifesto Library, a collection dedicated to banned and censored books, permanently housed in the Livraria Lello bookshop in Porto, Portugal. This initiative supports the BABELL – City of Books festival and extends Lipa's mission from her Service95 Book Club, which promotes reading and author interviews.

The library features nearly 100 books that have faced restrictions due to themes like race, sexuality, or LGBTQIA+ content. Some works are by authors who have faced severe repercussions for their writing. The collection focuses on four themes: power, control, voice, and memory, with titles like Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale" and works by Salman Rushdie included.

Livraria Lello, a bookshop with 120 years of history, views books as a "technology of freedom." The Manifesto Library supports this belief, aiming to foster a society's ability to imagine and interpret its own future through reading. Lipa also curated the 2026 London Literature Festival, underscoring her ongoing advocacy for literature and free expression.
