DoorDash Tasks: New Gig Work Beyond Delivery

DoorDash has launched Tasks, a new platform feature allowing Dashers to earn money through short activities beyond food delivery. The service helps businesses gather real-time insights about physical locations, from photographing restaurant menus to verifying store layouts. Since 2024, Dashers have completed over 2 million tasks, demonstrating strong early adoption.

This expansion leverages DoorDash's decade of experience solving real-world logistics problems, like finding hard-to-reach addresses or checking business hours. The company recognized that the same capabilities helping delivery drivers could benefit other industries. Businesses across retail, insurance, hospitality, and technology are already partnering with DoorDash to access on-the-ground information at scale.

Dashers can complete tasks between deliveries or during free time, with pay shown upfront based on complexity. A standalone app is being piloted for specialized activities like recording multilingual speech or filming everyday tasks to train AI systems. The service excludes California, New York City, Seattle, and Colorado, and plans to expand into more task types and countries over time.
