The $580 million Greenlink Connector undersea power cable between Ireland and Wales was rerouted after Harry Potter fans protested that it would pass through the filming location of Dobby the House Elf's grave.

Project manager Simon Ludlam initially dismissed concerns, telling The Guardian he didn't know who Dobby was and that the character was fictitious. However, after the BBC aired the story, the company received hundreds of calls from concerned fans.

"Apparently, we're going to go straight through Dobby's grave," Ludlam recounted. His colleague replied, "No, it's very, very serious."

In the end, the company relented and rerouted the cable to avoid the Freshwater West location, which served as the filming site for Shell Cottage where Dobby is buried in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.

The National Trust, which owns the land, had previously warned visitors against leaving stones marked with epitaph tributes due to ecological sensitivity.

Ironically, the new route passes near Bronze Age burial sites and urns, which are actual human burial grounds.

Fans continue to leave memorial stones at the site despite warnings, demonstrating the passionate devotion to the fictional character who saved Harry Potter and his friends.
