CSS-Tricks is an independent site once again. After Digital Ocean purchased the site in 2022 from Chris Coyier, who founded it in 2007, Chris Coyier has taken independent ownership as of 2026. He runs the site with a small team and plans changes for the better.
Chris Coyier admits feeling overwhelmed and nervous about the investment, which he's making his full-time job for the foreseeable future. Advertising will be needed to keep the lights on, returning to pre-Digital Ocean roots with display ads, sponsored posts, and newsletter sponsors.
He's developing an HTML/CSS course for beginners and relaunching the newsletter after a long hiatus. The site aims to be more inclusive for all front-end learners, regardless of skill level. New articles will continue weekly, along with the guest writing form.
Chris Coyier emphasizes building a community platform where others can share ideas, rather than using it as a personal soapbox. Support is welcomed through membership contributions.
