The tiny Caribbean island of Nevis has become an unlikely battleground for crypto-libertarian ambitions. Belgian billionaire Olivier Janssens, who obtained citizenship through investment, has proposed the massive "Destiny" project that would carve out a futuristic enclave covering roughly one-tenth of the island.

Janssens envisions a self-governing community housing 10,000 new residents with their own currency and judicial system—a "Monaco-Dubai of the Caribbean." The scale of development threatens to overwhelm Nevis's existing population of just 13,000 people, raising questions about sovereignty and environmental impact.

Local residents have organized strong opposition to the plan. Glendale Herbert of the Nevis community foundation dismissed the proposal as absurd, telling reporters "You've got to be crazy." The backlash reflects growing tensions between wealthy technocrats and established island communities.
