Cells progress through meiosis correctly, with chromosome-pairing machinery assembling as expected. Most significantly, researchers have created what they believe are the first fully stem cell-derived human follicles - the essential ovarian units housing each egg. These structures show proper cellular organization without artificial manipulation.

This achievement could transform fertility treatment by eliminating hormone injections and surgical retrieval. Families might access unlimited healthy eggs from simple blood draws, enabling older women to conceive naturally. However, the work remains years from clinical application, with safety and efficacy questions still requiring extensive study before human trials.
