Geophysicist Stefan Burns warns that Sunday's seismic event occurred at a critical junction linking the Garlock Fault to the infamous San Andreas Fault. He claims this area is 'unlocked' and could be a precursor to 'The Big One,' a potentially devastating earthquake exceeding magnitude 8.

Burns explained that the Garlock Fault, which is overdue for a major rupture, meets the San Andreas Fault in a complex zone. A significant quake on the Garlock could potentially jump to the San Andreas, triggering a catastrophic event. While some seismologists dispute the exact location of Sunday's quake, experts agree that stress levels in the region are historically high, with a 99% chance of a major quake exceeding magnitude 6.7 by 2043.
