Bitwarden leadership shuffle coincides with branding tweaks

Password‑manager vendor Bitwarden has quietly reshuffled its leadership while tweaking its public messaging. In February founder‑CEO Michael Crandell shifted to an advisory role, and former Acquia chief Michael Sullivan took the helm. Both moves occurred without a formal press release, signaling a low‑key transition for the company now.

Sullivan touts deep experience in mergers and acquisitions, having worked with private‑equity firms on prior deals. He joins CFO Stephen Morrison’s departure; Morrison left in April and was replaced by ex‑InVision executive Michael Shenkman. The duo’s private‑equity background may steer Bitwarden toward strategic exits in the near future.

Concurrently, the company altered its website copy. The “Always free” label vanished from the personal‑password‑manager pricing table in mid‑April, though the free tier remains accessible elsewhere. On the careers page, the original “GRIT” values—Gratitude, Responsibility, Inclusion, Transparency—were revised to replace Inclusion and Transparency with Innovation and Trust today.

Retaining “inclusive environment” under Gratitude and mentioning transparency within Trust preserves some of the original messaging, but the shift signals a subtle rebranding toward language. With new leadership and a refreshed value set, Bitwarden appears to position itself for expanded adoption while keeping its core free offering intact.
