British Columbia will end seasonal time changes and adopt year-round daylight time starting November 1, 2026. Premier David Eby announced Monday that March 8 will be the last time most residents need to change their clocks. The province will permanently observe Pacific time, aligning with the Yukon year-round.

A 2019 public engagement report found 93 percent of respondents preferred year-round daylight time, with three-quarters citing health and wellness concerns. Eby said the government had been waiting for neighboring states to act but decided to proceed independently. Washington, Oregon, and California are working on similar legislation but require congressional approval.

Some eastern B.C. communities that observe mountain time will see minimal changes. The province notes that Dawson Creek will remain on the same time as most of B.C. year-round, while Cranbrook will align in winter but be one hour ahead in summer. Eby emphasized the decision improves quality of life, noting that time changes disrupt sleep patterns for children, pets, and adults while increasing car accidents.
