AMD Restores Memory Guard on Ryzen 9000 CPUs in July BIOS Update

AMD will bring back Transparent Secure Memory Encryption, branded Memory Guard, to its Ryzen 9000 desktop line in a July BIOS update. The feature, once available on PRO models and consumer chips, disappeared after AGESA 1.2.7.0.

Security researchers noted the removal when auditing a Ryzen 7 9700 X, prompting a GitHub bug report. AMD confirmed TSME support dates back to the Ryzen 7 3700 X in 2020.

The company cites community feedback for reinstating the option. TSME encrypts RAM to protect against cold‑boot attacks, a concern only for devices with physical access. By re‑enabling the firmware toggle, AMD restores a foundational security layer for all Ryzen 9000 processors.

AMD stresses that TSME will remain in its PRO lineup and will return to consumer boards via BIOS, ensuring consistent protection across its desktop families.
