The breach exposed names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, and partial Social Security numbers, though payment details remained secure. ADT clarified that customer security systems were unaffected, but the incident highlights vulnerabilities in even well-established firms.

A cybercriminal group, later identified as ShinyHunters, claimed to have stolen 10 million records and threatened leaks unless paid, though ADT denied offering a ransom.
