A16Z Partner Debunks 'Vibe Coding' Everything Theory

Anish Acharya, a general partner at Andressen Horowitz, challenged the popular notion that companies should use AI-assisted coding for all business functions. Speaking on the "20VC" podcast, Acharya argued that software represents only 8% to 12% of company expenses, making it inefficient to rebuild enterprise tools like payroll and ERP systems with AI.

Acharya warned that relying on AI to write code carries significant risks and questioned why companies would "point this innovation bazooka" at rebuilding established enterprise software from providers like Salesforce, Microsoft, Oracle, and SAP. Instead, he suggested AI should focus on developing core business functions or optimizing the remaining 90% of operational costs.

The A16Z partner's comments come amid a brutal week for software stocks, triggered by investor panic over Anthropic's new AI tool capable of performing legal industry tasks. Acharya joins investor Vinod Khosla in dismissing market concerns, arguing that fundamentals like API call volume matter more than stock prices when evaluating AI's future.
