Brent Rohöl fiel unter 102 Dollar pro Barrel, nachdem frühe Gewinne gestrichen wurden, following a 2% drop the prior week. US nonfarm payrolls rose only 29,000 last month, missing all estimates in a Bloomberg survey, leading money markets to price in fewer chances of an October rate increase. Homin Lee, a strategist at Lombard Odier in Singapore, noted that downside surprises in US nonfarm payroll and core PCE inflation are supporting a limited hiking cycle, providing relief for emerging markets.

Technology was the top contributor to EM equity gains, with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. shares jumping over 3% on optimism about a potential collaboration with Elon Musk’s Terafab. Markets in South Korea and mainland China were closed for holidays. Lee expressed tactical bullishness on EM equities and hard currency bonds, citing the region’s positioning to benefit from a broadening global capex boom.

In Brazil, an exchange-traded fund in Japan and futures on the real gained after Flávio Bolsonaro unexpectedly led President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the first round of the presidential election. Meanwhile, Chinese EV makers including BYD Co. saw shares drop in Hong Kong after a media report said the UK plans to impose levies on EV imports.
