Once an exotic European escapade for Britain's star footballers, playing abroad is now a well-trodden pilgrimage. Eight of England's most recent World Cup squad are currently playing overseas, while Scotland have even more abroad, predominantly in Serie A.
This week we rank the best British exports since the turn of the century. Kieran Trippier became Atletico Madrid's first English player in almost a century, helping them win only their second La Liga title since the millennium, breaking the Barcelona and Real Madrid stranglehold. Fikayo Tomori lifted the Serie A Scudetto in 2021-22 with AC Milan, earning a spot in the team of the season, now into his seventh season with the European giants.
Jadon Sancho departed for Borussia Dortmund at 17, scoring 50 goals and making 64 assists across 137 games, winning a German Cup and finishing runner-up in both the European Golden Boy prize and the Kopa Trophy. David Beckham won La Liga with Real Madrid in 2007 before joining LA Galaxy, also stints with AC Milan and PSG.
