Hugo Boss appoints Frasers CEO as new chair amid takeover push

Hugo Boss has appointed Frasers Group chief executive Michael Murray as chair of its supervisory board, as billionaire Mike Ashley's retail group strengthens its grip on the German fashion brand. The move follows previous chair Stephan Sturm stepping down after Frasers said it was reviewing his continued support following a clash over dividend payments.

Frasers has increased its stake in Hugo Boss to roughly 48 per cent following a €2.7bn takeover offer launched in June, and plans to increase its holding above 50 per cent. Robert Palmer, a former Frasers company secretary, will also join the supervisory board subject to appointment by the local court.

Murray has sat on the German group's board since May 2025. Hugo Boss chief executive Daniel Grieder said he had consistently supported the company's strategy and, together with Frasers, shared its view regarding the group's significant untapped potential. The German group urges shareholders to reject the offer, arguing it significantly undervalues the company, as it attempts to boost performance amid weaker luxury sector demand.
