Rockstar Tightens GTA VI Mod Restrictions

Ahead of GTA VI's launch, Rockstar has released a strict modding guide that limits community contributions to the game's universe. The guidelines, spotted on Reset Era forums and published on September 10, prohibit mods that expand or modify official storylines, plots, missions, characters, or other continuity elements. The studio also forbids combining maps, locations, characters, or other IP between different Rockstar titles.

This follows earlier takedowns, including the Liberty City Preservation Project mod that recreated GTA IV's map in GTA V. Recent projects like a Borderlands crossover mod and a GTA V port to the original Nintendo Switch would violate these new rules.

The official guide states mods must respect Rockstar's games and established continuity. Multiplayer modding is restricted to Rockstar's licensed Creator Platform, and mods cannot modify games for unreleased platforms. Cheat menus, voiceover reuse, real-world likenesses, and unauthorized monetization are also prohibited. All mods must comply with User Rules and Community Guidelines, with no tolerance for harmful content, harassment, or unauthorized commercial use.
