Speaking with coach JJ Redick, Pelinka confirmed the retention of Austin Reaves, the acquisition of Walker Kessler as a franchise center, and the addition of younger, JJ Redick-approved players focused on dribble, pass, and shoot skills. He emphasized confidence in the new core around Luka Doncic despite criticism over future draft picks and long-term contracts.

The Lakers re-signed Reaves to a four-year, $184.7 million deal and acquired Kessler via sign-and-trade with Utah, signing him to a four-year, $130 million contract while sending two unprotected first-round picks and two pick swaps to the Jazz. Pelinka called Kessler a 'perfect fit' for Doncic and Reaves, citing the scarcity of elite two-way centers. Supporting moves included signing Quentin Grimes ($60M), Sandro Mamukelashvili ($52M), and Collin Sexton ($19M).

The Lakers also parted ways with James, Rui Hachimura, Marcus Smart, Deandre Ayton, Luke Kennard, and Jaxson Hayes. Pelinka noted the roster reset aligns with Doncic’s age (27) as he takes over from the 41-year-old James, aiming to build a younger, high-character contender.
