The U.S. women's basketball team beat France 97-79 in Berlin to win its fifth consecutive FIBA Women's World Cup title and 12th overall. Trailing 45-43 at halftime, Team USA outscored France 30-12 in the third quarter to take control. Despite missing stars A'ja Wilson and Kelsey Plum to injury, the Americans relied on veterans Jackie Young, Breanna Stewart, Chelsea Gray, Kahleah Copper, and Napheesa Collier, along with rising stars Rhyne Howard, Aliyah Boston, Caitlin Clark, and Paige Bueckers.

Young earned player of the game with 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists; Stewart was tournament MVP with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. The U.S. defense intensified in the second half, forcing turnovers and missed shots that fueled the offense. Coach Kara Lawson and assistant Natalie Nakase provided defensive expertise from Duke and the WNBA's Golden State Valkyries.

France, which had won its prior five games by an average of 35.6 points, struggled against the heightened U.S. defense, especially from three-point range. The victory extends Team USA's streak to no losses in major international play since 2006.
