Kevin Jennings overcame two early interceptions to lead No. 19 SMU to a 27-24 victory over Florida State in a bizarre season opener. The game at Doak Campbell Stadium was delayed nearly two hours due to a power outage. Jennings completed 26 of 36 passes for 430 yards and three touchdowns.

Despite the miscues, he engineered the winning scoring drive, culminating in Nick Reed's 20-yard field goal with 21 seconds remaining. SMU amassed 585 offensive yards, with Jennings connecting with nine different receivers. Jalen Cooper and Randy Pittman each caught touchdown passes.

Yannick Smith contributed five receptions for 107 yards and a score. The Mustangs improved to 1-0, while Florida State fell to 1-1. SMU will host FCS UC Davis in their home opener in Dallas this Saturday.
