Two national title contenders were in trouble Sunday night. Notre Dame eventually pulled away from Wisconsin at historic Lambeau Field, avoiding disaster a season after declaring they would "leave no doubt" this time. Ole Miss took Louisville down to the wire before winning 41-38. Both schools ended the night with better wins than most every other team in consideration for the first top-12 prediction of the season.

It's still tough to separate the top contenders, especially with similar results against weaker teams, but that will change quickly in Week 2, when Texas hosts Ohio State to settle it on the field. Ohio State rushed for 237 yards and held Ball State to just 45, while Texas was outgained on the ground 161-156 against Texas State. Both quarterbacks, Texas' Arch Manning and Ohio State's Julian Sayin, played well and left their respective games in the third quarter.

Miami won with style in Week 1 roughly 2,500 miles away from its campus against a conference opponent, though Stanford was without three injured projected offensive line starters, plus receiver Nico Brown and edge rusher Gabe Kaminski. The Canes' toughest remaining game is Nov. 7 at Notre Dame.

ESPN's FPI gives Texas a 53.7% chance to win Saturday against the Buckeyes, the only game on Ohio State's schedule they aren't favored to win.
