His family announced Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD), complicated by possible Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), likely sustained during his racing career. Waltrip, a three-time Cup Series champion with 84 career wins, was a defining personality in NASCAR, known for his signature "Boogity! Boogity! Boogity!" call and his rivalry with drivers like Dale Earnhardt.

After a legendary driving career that included Hall of Fame induction in 2012, he became Fox Sports' first NASCAR hire in 2001. While the family notes symptoms are currently minor, the progressive nature of the disease has necessitated his withdrawal from the public limelight. Waltrip remains happy and healthy, spending time with his wife Stevie and their grandchildren.
