Injury Report
Eagles running back Will Shipley is likely to miss time after suffering a partial plantar fascia tear. Steelers wideout Roman Wilson will be out multiple weeks with a finger injury, adding to the growing list of banged-up Pittsburgh receivers. Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. left the overtime loss to the Ravens with a rib injury, but he does not expect a long-term absence. 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel was ruled out with a hamstring injury in the third quarter. Texans running back David Montgomery exited with a groin injury against the Titans. Patriots running back Tre Veyon Henderson and left tackle Will Campbell both left the rout of the Raiders with ankle and knee injuries. Browns rookie KC Concepcion was knocked out of the Jets game with a concussion after an illegal hit. Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is close to returning after missing his third straight game, according to coach Ben Johnson.
Week 5 Results and Standouts
The Commanders and Giants played to a 27-27 tie after Washington botched the final play of overtime, and quarterback Jayden Daniels took responsibility, saying "it's on me." The Ravens edged the Bengals-era backup plan by riding Tyler Huntley to a 30-23 overtime win with Lamar Jackson sidelined. In San Francisco, Mike Evans led the 49ers with seven catches, 113 yards and a touchdown in a 32-29 win over Seattle, keeping the club unbeaten. Drake Maye bounced back from a rough start with a dominant Week 5 win, even as Patriots injuries mounted. Kyler Murray scrambled seven times to lead the Vikings past the Saints, a performance that looked like vintage Murray. Jahmyr Gibbs passed Barry Sanders for the most NFL touchdowns before turning, reaching his 58th career score. Steelers running back Jaylen Warren had another strong showing while Rico Dowdle is out. Jets rookie David Bailey authored a breakthrough performance in New York's win. The Texans snapped a losing streak with a win over the Titans. In Jacksonville, nose tackle DaVon Hamilton delivered the snap on Cam Little's walk-off extra point against the Eagles. The Packers rolled the Bears 31-7, and Zaire Franklin ripped Luther Burden afterward. The Falcons scored on a fumble recovery that was returned for a touchdown.
Trades and Roster Moves
The Texans completed a trade for Cardinals receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., reuniting him with quarterback C.J. Stroud after a 1-4 start. The move came as Houston looked to give Stroud another weapon. Analysts also weighed the decisions behind both the Harrison deal and Washington's late-game clock management. Raiders first-overall pick Fernando Mendoza made his regular-season debut late in a loss to the Patriots, and coach Pete Carroll said he "did a good job."
Coaching and Accountability
Titans coach Robert Saleh will stick with Cam Ward as his starting quarterback despite a 0-5 start, promising him "every opportunity." Eagles coach Nick Sirianni took the blame for a late-game decision in the loss to Jacksonville, saying "I lost us that game." Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh also owned a loss to the Broncos, calling a momentum-swinging fourth-down call "100% on me." Lawrence's walk-off comments headlined the week's best quotes across the league, and a fight at the opening kickoff in London ejected two players. In San Francisco, linebacker Dre Greenlaw was ejected after a head-butt during the win over Seattle.
Fantasy Football
With several key starters sidelined, free agency options like Jordan Love and Mar Shawn Lloyd lead the top pickups for managers. The week's winners and losers saw Maye, Warren and Gibbs dominate, while Jonathan Taylor and Amon-Ra St. Brown struggled. Josh Allen continues to rack up endorsements as the Bills quarterback's profile grows off the field. Meanwhile, ESPN spoke with 16 NFL players about coaching their own children, including Matthew Stafford's perspective.
