Butterfly Equity has agreed to acquire Sabert, a manufacturer of sustainable food packaging, for undisclosed terms. Founded in 1983 and based in Sayreville, New Jersey, Sabert operates 13 manufacturing facilities globally, including nine in the US and others in Belgium, England, Poland and China. It employs about 3,000 people and holds more than 400 product patents.

Founder and executive chairman Albert Salama will remain a meaningful minority investor through a rollover investment. CEO Paul Mc Cann leads the company.

"Sabert is exactly the type of business we look for at Butterfly," said Adam Waglay, CEO, co-founder and managing partner at Butterfly. He added that packaging plays an essential role in meeting consumer demand for convenience and flexibility.

Butterfly was advised by Kirkland & Ellis and KPMG. UBS Investment Bank and Goldman Sachs advised Sabert, with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and FBT Gibbons as legal counsel. Financing is provided by UBS, Goldman Sachs and KKR Capital Markets. The deal is expected to close in Q4 2026.

Butterfly, founded in 2016, focuses exclusively on food, with a portfolio representing about $12 billion in enterprise value, including QDOBA, The Duckhorn Portfolio and Orgain. It is headquartered in Los Angeles with an office in New York.
