Apple today shared a guide to help parents use child safety tools in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS Golden Gate. Titled "Building Healthy Digital Habits: A Guide for Families," it was developed with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
The six-step guide covers balancing screen time with sleep, exercise, schoolwork, and family time. It offers advice on starting conversations about screen time, creating a Child Account, setting safety settings like Ask to Buy and Ask to Browse, making schedules with Time Allowances, managing communications with Communication Safety, and continuing the conversation as kids grow.
The guide includes AAP recommendations on screen time by age group. Apple added new parental controls and an overhauled Screen Time in iOS 27. Parents can choose app access, monitor websites, manage contacts, and set different schedules. The new Screen Time requires all Family Sharing devices to run iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27.
The guide arrives amid regulatory pressure on child safety in the UK, U.S., and Australia.
