Apple is expected to release iOS 27 shortly after its iPhone event next week. Ahead of the official rollout, a new feature called iPhone Handoff will let users use the same phone number on two iPhones. According to a MacRumors forum member who simulated two devices using Xcode 27, one iPhone must be designated as the main device while the other serves as a companion.

The main eSIM remains on the primary device, while a companion eSIM is created on the second device. This allows users to switch between iPhones while retaining the same phone number. The phone number will automatically switch based on which device is unlocked and actively in use.

A notification will appear in the Dynamic Island whenever the number switches. Cellular settings will only be accessible on the main iPhone, and the feature requires carrier support. T-Mobile in the US and Deutsche Telekom in Germany could reportedly be among the first carriers to support iPhone Handoff.

Apple is expected to share more details once iOS 27 is available to the public.
