CarPlay is one of the most underrated features on your iPhone, offering navigation, messaging, music, and EV charging locators on more than 800 vehicle models from Chevrolets to Volvos. The expanded CarPlay Ultra integrates deeper into vehicles for climate control, though it remains exclusive to ultra-luxury cars. However, the system leans entirely on the iPhone for processing: the car's display acts only as a monitor while the phone renders icons, maps, and album art. This constant processing, combined with GPS apps like Apple Maps and Waze pinging location continuously and streaming music over cellular, causes significant battery drain — especially in areas with poor signal where the phone works harder to maintain connection.

Wireless CarPlay worsens the issue because the iPhone powers the system solely on battery without charging. The best fix is a wired connection, which keeps the phone charging while CarPlay runs and respects the charging limit set under Settings > Battery > Charging. If wireless is the only option, turn off the iPhone's screen, enable Low Power Mode, use a wireless charging pad if available, download playlists and podcasts to reduce cellular reliance, and avoid navigation apps on known routes.
