Google Chrome has officially transitioned to a two-week release cycle, beginning with version 153 rolling out today for desktop, Android, and iOS. Previously, major milestone updates occurred every four weeks, and before 2021, on a six-week cadence. The new schedule aims to deliver new features, performance improvements, and bug fixes faster, with smaller scope per release enabling quicker regression isolation.

Google states the increased cadence benefits the entire web, allowing developers to ship modern features with confidence due to tighter deployment windows, rapid interoperability updates, and faster safety improvements across platforms. On security, the shift helps protect against fast-moving threats amid the rise of AI. For enterprise customers, Chrome offers an Extended Stable channel updating every eight weeks — Chrome 156 followed by version 160 — though Google recommends most enterprise users remain on the two-week Stable channel.

Version 154 is scheduled for release on September 22.
