Nintendo has announced Metroid Ravenous, the next 2D Metroid game, coming to the Switch 2 on January 28, 2027. The game follows Samus Aran as she is ambushed and thrown underground, losing her powers and needing to recover them. A key new ability lets Samus absorb enemy powers, a twist on the series' traditional Metroid mechanics.

The trailer hints at a return of the E. M. M.

I. robots from Metroid Dread, but with less deadly encounters. Fans won't have to wait long, as the release is just over a year after Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
