Apple supplier SK Hynix is reportedly in exploratory talks with Intel to produce memory chips in the United States. According to Reuters sources from September 16, SK Hynix may lease a section of Intel's planned Ohio facility or form a joint venture with AI companies. While the move could support US production goals, Intel's $20 billion Ohio facility is not slated for completion until between 2030 and 2032.

Simultaneously, SK Hynix announced a $38.3 billion expansion in South Korea, with new plants expected by 2029. Political hurdles remain, as the South Korean government could potentially block the deal due to technology sensitivity. The talks represent a potential shift in the memory supply chain amid ongoing global shortages.
