Apple has reportedly canceled its long-rumored all-screen folding MacBook Pro project, according to a September 3 report from display analyst firm Omdia. The device, first rumored in 2022 with a potential 2026 launch, may never reach the market. Omdia's wide-ranging report also mentions a possible 2029 MacBook and an M5 Ultra chip for the OLED MacBook Pro, while noting a 13.8-inch OLED "bridge" product between the Pro and Air lines expected in 2029.

The folding MacBook Pro was primarily championed by Korean publication The Elec, which Omdia notes has a poor track record for Apple predictions. Omdia itself acknowledges difficulty in tracking OLED panel destinations, as screens are cut from large sheets and can be repurposed for different products after manufacturing. It remains unclear whether Apple shifted plans or if the folding device never existed beyond early exploration.

While Omdia has relatively accurate display panel market tracking, its Apple product predictions are less reliable. The report suggests the folding all-screen MacBook Pro is likely dead, leaving the rumored 2029 OLED MacBook and M5 Ultra developments as the next major milestones for Apple's laptop lineup.
