Apple has confirmed to 9to5Mac that a software update addressing the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max rebooting bug will be available early next week. The issue causes devices to freeze and hard reboot after a failed Face ID attempt, which 9to5Mac reproduced by obscuring the face during authentication to access the Passwords app. The phone stops responding to touch input and reboots within seconds, leaving a panic log in the iPhone Analytics section of Settings.

The bug appears linked to the redesigned Face ID sensor system, where the Infrared camera moved behind the screen near the status bar clock, resulting in a 25% smaller visible Dynamic Island. While not affecting all users, the problem was reasonably widespread based on social media and reader reports. Some customers had already swapped devices at Apple stores, believing it was a hardware fault, but the confirmed software fix makes hardware replacement unnecessary.
