President Trump told world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly in New York that he had “a big decision”: strike a deal with Iran or “annihilate the Islamic Republic.” He asked, “Do I drive them into hell with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness or generations?” Trump also celebrated the U.S. military operation in Venezuela, saying, “To the victor belong the spoils.” His remarks came inside an institution created to resolve conflicts peacefully. Cuban representatives walked out after Trump called Cuba an “absolutely failed state” and said its government “will fall.” Iranian diplomats sat stone-faced. On the sidelines, Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Iran’s foreign minister; Trump called it a “very good meeting.”

In Detroit, Kamala Harris campaigned with Abdul El-Sayed, Michigan’s Democratic nominee for the Senate, a rare stop for the former vice president. El-Sayed needs to shore up support from Black voters and moderates in a tight race in a state Trump won in 2024. Harris is trying to maintain her influence as she considers a presidential run.

Unions are rallying around the threat of A.I. The machinists union has been particularly proactive, demanding A.I. transparency in its contracts. Tim Suitter, president of the union representing ship builders at Bath Iron Works, is among those concerned.
