Rasmus Errboe, CEO of Danish wind farm developer Ørsted, urged Europe to act against Chinese wind turbine makers benefiting from 'unfair' state support while maintaining global supply chains. Speaking in Brussels, Errboe praised the wind power sector as a 'European industrial success story' and backed EU efforts to clamp down on Chinese manufacturers with government subsidies. 'Competition needs to happen on fair and equal terms,' he told the Financial Times. 'We've in recent years seen the European Commission being much more active in addressing unfair trading practices.'

The OECD found Chinese solar companies received the most subsidies of any manufacturers by a 'significant margin,' prompting EU officials to protect the wind industry from replicating solar's decline. The Commission is investigating Goldwind over alleged unfair subsidies, while German turbine maker Nordex's José Luis Blanco has called for banning non-western companies under cyber security rules.

China accounts for less than 3 per cent of new turbine capacity in Europe. Errboe emphasized a 'thriving' European wind sector requires global supply chain access. Europe is on track for a record year with 24GW of capacity expected in 2026, wind providing about a fifth of electricity.
