Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said the whole international community should take responsibility for containing the Houthi threat.

"The Houthis are threatening the Bab el-Mandeb, threatening international shipping, are a risk to international security and stability," Prince Faisal told reporters in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. "The responsibility to deal with that threat is not just on Saudi Arabia."

Houthi militants have made advances against Saudi-backed forces in Yemen, capturing almost all of the country's Red Sea coastline. They have also ramped up strikes on the Saudi kingdom, injuring dozens and damaging energy infrastructure. Saudi Arabia came under attack again on Thursday, intercepting missiles fired toward the Red Sea port of Yanbu and city of Taif.

"I want to thank those partners who already contributed to working with us to deal with that threat," Prince Faisal said. "We will continue to work with our partners in the US to address the issue of this conflict."
