LG TVs are under scrutiny after a Gamers Nexus investigation with Level1Techs and security researchers revealed the devices scan local networks for third-party devices, even when turned off. The YouTube channel's Wireshark testing of LG's OLED65G3PUA, starting at $2,500, showed the TV crawling the entire LAN and identifying dozens of unrelated devices, including staff smartwatches and phones. Steve Burke, Gamers Nexus' editor-in-chief, stated, "The [G5] crawled our entire network and found dozens of unrelated devices, including smartwatches and phones of our staff who didn't even know we were working on this."

LG Ad Solutions marketing materials claim the ability to reach 363 million "addressable secondary devices" in the US. Firmware analysis found LG TVs can identify IP addresses, geographic location, nearby Wi-Fi network names and signal strengths, channel numbers, and internal IP addresses of other network devices — even those not connected to the TV.

LG Electronics responded that TVs identify compatible devices on the same network to enable features like device connectivity, content sharing, and smart home functionality. However, it remains unclear if this data is used beyond advertising or transmitted to LG. The capability raises privacy concerns for unsuspecting owners.
