MediaTek has announced its flagship Dimensity 9600 Pro processor, the first smartphone chip built on TSMC's cutting-edge 2-nanometer N2P process. This move places the Taiwanese manufacturer ahead of its main rival, Qualcomm, which is expected to adopt the same process for its upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 next week. MediaTek claims the new architecture delivers a 61 percent reduction in multi-core power consumption, a 17 percent boost in single-core speed, and a 15 percent increase in multi-core performance over the previous generation.

The chip utilizes a 2+3+3 All Big Core CPU design and features a dual-NPU architecture combining GPU and AI computing with an Agentic AI Engine for on-device intelligence. Gaming improvements include 27 percent higher peak performance, 18 percent faster raytracing, and 24 percent lower power consumption at peak speeds. Camera support extends to 4K 120 fps video capture.

MediaTek asserts it is the "number one manufacturer of mobile chipsets" by market value. Partners adopting the chip include Oppo, Xiaomi, Samsung, Motorola, and Realme. The N2P adoption was first revealed a year ago alongside Intel and AMD. Last week, Apple confirmed it is using TSMC's 2nm process for the new iPhone 18 lineup.
