The 52-year-old executive graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1997 with a Mechanical Engineering degree. His senior project was a mechanical feeding arm for quadriplegics controlled by head movements—a detail that resonates with Apple's rumored home robot projects. After 24 years at Apple, Ternus inherits a company facing intensifying competition and regulatory scrutiny, though it remains the dominant player in premium consumer technology.
