WhatsApp Web has finally gained support for audio and video calls, addressing a significant limitation of its web client. This new functionality, integrated into WhatsApp Web, requires no downloads or installations. Alongside calls, the web version now supports screen sharing, reactions, and a dedicated Calls tab displaying call history and favorites.

Calls made through WhatsApp Web are end-to-end encrypted, with no time limits or associated costs. A notable enhancement is the ability to transfer calls seamlessly between devices – mobile, WhatsApp Web, and WhatsApp Desktop – without needing to disconnect and re-establish the connection. For those initiating calls, the option to create a WhatsApp call link with an approval requirement for participants to enter a waiting room has been introduced.

Furthermore, noise suppression is being rolled out to improve audio clarity by filtering out background noise, controllable within in-call settings. Video calls will now offer immediate HD quality from the start. WhatsApp states that these features are being gradually rolled out and will be available to all users soon.
