Apple Closes Stores Including First Union Location

Apple plans to permanently close three retail stores this summer, including the Towson, Maryland location that became Apple's first unionized store. The tech giant confirmed closures in Trumbull, CT; Escondido, CA; and Towson, MD, with Towson workers reaching a contract agreement in 2024.

Apple cited "declining conditions" at the shopping centers as the reason for ending operations. Employees at Trumbull and North County will continue at nearby stores while Towson workers can apply for other positions under their collective bargaining agreement.

The union representing Towson workers suspects the closure is a "cynical attempt to bust the union" and is exploring legal options. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers called Apple's claim that collective bargaining prevented relocation "false" and vowed to hold the company accountable.
