OpenAI was disappointed by the low adoption of ChatGPT through Apple Intelligence, according to new court filings. The integration, launched in 2024, "dramatically underperformed" expectations. OpenAI expected a "halo effect" from the Apple partnership but saw slow user growth.

By summer 2025, the integration was underperforming significantly. The filing notes that Apple's implementation—where ChatGPT was off by default—may have contributed to the slow start. Additionally, OpenAI executives feared Apple might move faster to partner with another AI provider.

Apple has since integrated Google's Gemini models into Siri and expanded Xcode to support coding agents from Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI. The filing also highlights contradictions between SpaceX's IPO disclosures and its claims of competitive harm. OpenAI is asking Judge Mark Pittman to rule in its favor before trial on SpaceXAI’s antitrust claims.

The case is set for trial in January.
