The program allows players to convert physical Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S game discs into digital licenses, paving the way toward a discless future while maintaining backward compatibility. However, eligibility is not guaranteed; Microsoft notes that not all Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S game discs qualify, as availability varies due to technical, licensing, publishing, and manufacturing factors.

The company reserves the right to add or remove games from the program at its discretion. A support page clarifies that all digital licenses are revokable; if a game disc is sold or lost, the digital license is revoked. Additionally, the program currently only supports Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S discs, with Xbox 360 and original Xbox games excluded despite backward compatibility.
