Other World Computing (OWC) announced the expansion of its USB4 product portfolio with the OWC USB4 Hub and USB4 40 Gb/s Active Optical Cables in 3-Meter and 5-Meter lengths. The hub targets creative professionals, heavy storage users, and hybrid workers who use a laptop as their primary computer. It delivers up to 40 Gb/s total bandwidth through a single USB4 cable, connecting fast external storage, accessories, and an HDMI 2.1 display while providing up to 81 W of host charging.

Key features include native HDMI 2.1 support for up to 8K 60 Hz or 4K 240 Hz with DSC, two 10 Gb/s USB-C ports, and a fanless aluminum housing for silent operation. It is compatible with Thunderbolt 5/4/3, USB4, and USB-C hosts across Mac, Windows, Linux, and iPad Pro. Larry O'Connor, Founder and CEO, stated the hub gives users the "best of both worlds" by eliminating connectivity compromises at the desk.

The new active optical cables extend high-speed 40 Gb/s connectivity over longer distances of 3 and 5 meters without signal degradation.
