Kevin Pietersen says he is a "completely different person" having returned to the England cricket set-up after his infamous fallouts during his playing career. Pietersen represented England 277 times across all formats but was sacked in 2014 and disconnected from the side for over a decade after the ECB accused him of failing to support captain Sir Alastair Cook following the 5-0 Ashes defeat in Australia. He was also dropped in 2012 after sending texts to the South African team and has since been a vocal critic of England's white-ball preparation.

Having recently returned as a specialist on the white-ball coaching staff, Pietersen is keen to offer his experience to current England stars. He said, "I'm 46, man. That stuff's so long gone.

I'm a completely different person too," emphasizing his shifted mindset and willingness to listen more than speak. Pietersen joined the coaching staff ahead of the Sri Lanka series and will serve as a mentor through to the 2027 Cricket World Cup in Africa. He recalled his first conversation with head coach Brendon Mc Cullum, saying he thought he was in trouble, but realized the perception of the dressing room did not match reality.

Pietersen also hinted at contributing to England's red-ball activity under new Test coach Stephen Fleming ahead of next year's Ashes, stating he wouldn't say no to involvement despite his busy schedule.
