Middlesbrough needed a late equaliser from Adilson Malanda to salvage a 2-2 draw against Birmingham in the Sky Bet Championship. The defender punished Birmingham goalkeeper James Beadle's handling error in the 88th minute after the home side had turned the game around.

Birmingham started brightly with Jhon Solis and Bright Osayi-Samuel creating chances, but Middlesbrough grew into the game through Amario Cozier-Duberry. The Brighton loanee set up Max Arfsten for a stunning 45th-minute opener, firing first-time into the top corner.

Chris Davies' side responded well after the restart, levelling within 10 minutes when Liam Millar scored his first Blues goal after Solis surged into the area. Four minutes later, Birmingham took the lead when a Millar corner pinballed in off Riley McGree. With 20 minutes remaining, Tomoki Iwata glanced a Millar cross just over.

Middlesbrough pressed with attacking substitutions including Tommy Conway, Kyle Joseph and Jeremy Sarmiento. The pressure paid off when Sebastian Berhalter's inswinging free-kick seemed harmless, but Beadle fumbled four yards out. Joseph could not bundle home, but Malanda did to send the travelling supporters home happy.
