San Diego Wave FC placed forward Catarina Macario on the NWSL's season-ending injury list Monday due to an ongoing knee issue, ending her 2026 season. Macario joined the Wave in March from Chelsea for about $300,000 on a deal through 2030 worth about $8 million guaranteed.

Macario underwent a minor procedure earlier this year to address the knee issue, a club spokesperson told ESPN. She posted on Instagram that she is on crutches and called the situation "sucks." "This time has given me a different perspective on what it means to build something that lasts," she wrote.

General manager Camille Ashton said the club is focused on Macario's health. Macario has battled knee complications since tearing her left ACL in 2022, which caused her to miss the 2023 World Cup and the 2024 Olympics. The 26-year-old last played a competitive match in December.

"I'm obviously disappointed that I won't have the opportunity to represent the club on the field this season," Macario said. San Diego did not provide a timetable for her return.
