Valencia dismissed coach Carlos Corberán and chief executive officer Ron Gourlay on Sunday with the side winless and bottom of La Liga. Both Corberán and Gourlay had been under increasing pressure from the club's fans in recent weeks due to the team's poor form. Friday's 1-0 defeat at Sevilla was Valencia's fourth straight loss and left the club with just one point from their opening five games. Los Ché have scored one goal and conceded 10 in the process.

Corberán, at the helm since December 2024, guided the club to a 12th place finish in his first season in charge. Valencia finished ninth last season and awarded the coach in July with a contract extension until 2028. In total, he won 28 and lost 26 of the 72 games he was in charge. Valencia also terminated the contracts of Corberán's coaching staff as well as four staff members working under Gourlay.

The decision comes days after Barcelona midfielder Rodri apologised for appearing to call Valencia "very weak" during a 5-0 victory last weekend. "This decision reflects the club's intention to begin a new phase for the running of the sporting structure and football operations," a club statement said. On an interim basis, VCF Mestalla coach Óscar Sánchez will take charge of the first team. The club announced in a separate statement that Braulio Vazquez has returned to the club as the new sporting director, a role he already held from 2010 to 2013.
